On the tail-end of two momentous solo exhibitions this winter, Mickalene Thomas is opening up the floor to her support system. Thomas curates work from six other artists into her engrossing environments. From her production and photography assistants to conceptual comrades in makeup and installation, these artists have been involved in her generating work over the course of the last seven years. Thomas herself will be debuting an artistic collaboration with Brother Vellies, a company in Namibia, Africa, that assembles traditional velskoen (also known as “vellies”) desert boots by hand. Five designs will be on display as a time capsule collection and available for pre-order. The exhibition includes work from Roddy Fitzgerald (installation coordinator/production assistant), NINA Z (stylist for photographs), Jayson Keeling (photo assistant), David Antonio Cruz (production assistant), Elisabeth Gaffney (studio manager/production coordinator).
