Ryan McLennan: New and Recent Works, 2009-2012
Le Poisson Rouge
158 Bleecker Street
New York, New York
February 9 – March

Ryan McLennan‘s work is halfway between a Flemish genre scene and an eventful safari. His wildlife compositions, oftentimes presenting animals in the midst of a kill, expose the beautiful calamity that is ‘survival of the fittest’. Textures are an immediate perk of these isolated scenes, drawing attention to how little matters when survival is your only concern.

Garrett Pruter: Mixed Signals
Charles Bank Gallery
196 Bowery
New York, New York
February 9 – March 14

Fresh off the art school boat, Garrett Pruter’s collages approach found photographs and posters with manic energy. His cut-ups create abysmal landscapes where sentimentality disintegrates. Whether he’s cutting magazines into tiny pieces or scratching a C-Print in a repetitive craze, Pruter’s experiments with image as object release them from the simplicity of memory and reclaim it as his own.
