Alexander Clark & Friends (39 West 56th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue)

Seven artists are contemplating what it means to give an object value. When and where does that value arise? By wrangling discarded items into a conceptual framework, value can be assigned to anything with spiritual, aesthetic, or nostalgic reference. A stark contrast can be provided between practical value and what the idea of something “good” or “precious.” How do we value our possessions differently than the world itself, than life itself?

Wise Blood at Field Projects: February 23 – Mar 3, 2012

526 West 26th St, #807

This group show is the third organized by Field Projects, a newly opened venue in Chelsea that supports short-term programming and pop-up shows. This show centers around a self-sustaining history. Our modern consumption of images are put in opposition to memory, of the nuances that reverberate beneath the foundation of these images. A full range of media, including sculpture, painting, sewn works, and collage, provide a varied insight into notions of wandering off the beaten path.
